Jean-Marc Duchenne, Feuillets d’album (MKCD016)

Ducks quacking, charming old ladies talking, dogs barking, guns firing, charming young girls laughing. Feuillet after feuillet of sonic images of French countryside. At least I heard no obvious city sounds. Anyway, if my description sounds like this is a total mishmash, just remember that Duchenne is French, and that the French invented and continue to dominate the turn-the-microphone-on school of composition. What continually surprises me, as a long time Luc Ferrari aficionado, and a long time French tape music fan the same, is how no one ever sounds like anyone but themselves. If you’ve heard one French “presque riens” piece, you’ve truly only heard one.
